Upgrading IMtegrity from a previously installed version
The IMtegrity for IBM Lotus Sametime software must be installed on the same
computer also running the IBM Lotus Sametime server software and you
must be logged on to Windows with an Administrator account.
If you are upgrading from an existing IMtegrity
installation, you might have the option of performing a "hot" upgrade
instead of a regular upgrade:
Important: See here
if you are upgrading the Lotus Sametime Server version (ie. if you
upgrade your server from Sametime version 3.x to 6.x, or from Sametime
version 6.x to 7.5).
Note:
- "Hot" upgrades can not be performed on new
installations.
- "Hot" upgrades can not be performed when upgrading from 3.1.x to
3.2.x
- "Hot" upgrades can be performed when upgrading from 3.2.x to 3.3.x and 3.4
Hot Upgrades:
If you cannot afford or schedule any downtime of your IBM Lotus Domino/Sametime
production servers, then you should perform a hot upgrade. A hot upgrade allows
you to install the latest version of IMtegrity while your servers are still
running. A hot upgrade does not require a server restart nor a operating system
reboot. Sametime chat services will continue to be available while
peforming Step 1 and Step 2 of the hot upgrade (see below).
However, all AOL AIM client connections will get disconnected and any AOL
AIM chats taking place during the actual upgrade will not be recorded.
Regular Upgrades:
If a scheduled downtime of your IBM Lotus Domino/Sametime production servers is
not a problem for you or if you cannot afford to miss any chat recordings
during a hot upgrade, then you should perform a regular upgrade. A regular
upgrade requires fewer manual steps but it does require a brief downtime and
restart of your IBM Lotus Domino/Sametime servers. It does not require to
reboot your operating system.
Performing a hot upgrade:
Step 1: Uninstall the previous version of IMtegrity
Before you can run the installer of the latest
version, you first need to uninstall the previously installed
version of IMtegrity (The installer won't allow you to proceed until the
previous version has been uninstalled).
Note: This will preserve all existing chat logs and configuration options.
While uninstalling, the following dialogbox might pop up:
"Annother application has exclusive access to the file
'<installfolder>\imtchatlog.ntf'.
Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry."
At this point, do not shut down the IBM Lotus Domino/Sametime
server. Instead, switch to the server console or to a remote server console and
issue the following Domino console command: > dbcache flush
After a few seconds, click the "Try again" button in the dialogbox. The
installer should now proceed and complete the uninstall.
Note: If the previous dialogbox re-appears, repeat the console command and try
again.
Note: Sametime chat services continue to be available during this step.
Step 2: Install the new version of IMtegrity
Run SETUP.EXE of the new version of IMtegity.
Click "Next" at the splash screen.
Click "Next" at the welcome page.
Either accept or deny the license agreement, then click "Next".
Select the previous installation folder again, then click "Next".
Click "Next" to start the installation.
Click "Close" to exit the installer.
Note: Sametime chat services continue to be available during this step.
Step 3: Stop and restart the Sametime
Chat Logging Service
Start the IMtegrity Configuration tool, select the
"Service" tab.
For the Sametime Chat Logging Service:
Click the "Stop Service" button, then click "Start Service" again.
Note: Restarting the service usually only takes a few seconds.
Note: Sametime chat services will be temporarily unavailable while the service
is stopping and restarting.
At this point, the server is fully operational again and will accept new AOL
AIM connections and log new Sametime and AOL IM chats.
The database design of the imtchatlog.nsf database has been automatically
upgraded to the newest version and the replica ID of the imtchatlog.nsf
database has been set to automatically replicate with all other imtchatlog.nsf
databases in your domain.
Note: All other Sametime servers need to be also upgraded to the latest version
of IMtegrity so that they also receive the new replica ID. Until all servers
have been upgraded, these databases will have different replica IDs and
therefore will not replicate.
Performing a regular upgrade:
Step 1: Stop and shutdown your IBM Lotus Domino/Sametime server
Step 2: Uninstall the previous version of IMtegrity
Before you can run the installer of the latest
version, you first need to uninstall the previously installed
version of IMtegrity. (The installer won't allow you to proceed until the
previous version has been uninstalled).
Step 3: Install the new version of IMtegrity
Run SETUP.EXE of the new version of IMtegity.
Click "Next" at the splash screen.
Click "Next" at the welcome page.
Either accept or deny the license agreement, then click "Next".
Select the previous installation folder again, then click "Next".
Click "Next" to start the installation.
Click "Close" to exit the installer.
At this point, the server is fully operational again and will accept new AOL AIM
connections and log new Sametime and AOL IM chats.
Until all servers
have been upgraded, these databases will have different replica IDs and
therefor will not replicate.
Note: If any errors occured during the installation, go to
Troubleshooting installation errors.
