Outbound disclaimer configuration

Disclaimer messages are administrator-specified text messages for AOL AIM traffic that are sent before or after the first message in an instant-message conversation ("per session disclaimers"). Optionally, additional disclaimer text can be repeated after every message sent to outside/external parties ("per message disclaimers").

Note: Outbound disclaimers are not supported for native IBM Lotus Sametime chats.

For instance, a company may wish to notify external parties that all instant messages are logged or that opinions express by the employee do not reflect the option of the employer/company, etc. A basic outbound disclaimer message is provided as a default text.

The outbound disclaimer text can contain HTML formatting tags and can be dynamic. You can insert the current date and date, the local user's screen name and authenticated name (see Directory authentication) and the remote users screen name anywhere in the text via special placeholder symbols.

Note: IBM Lotus Sametime Connect clients don't support HTML formatting in AOL IM mode, all messages (incl. outbound disclaimers) will be shown as plain text only.

Note: Outbound disclaimer configuration changes are dynamic and automatically take effect within 1 minute.

Send a disclaimer once for each recipient per user:
Select this option to enable "per session" outbound disclaimer texts. "Per session" outbound disclaimers are sent once per recipient and per user.

For example, if both "Mary" and "Joe" inside your company send instant messages to external user "Jim", "Jim" will receive 2 "per session" disclaimers at the begin of each chat session, one from "Mary" and one from "Joe". (The reason for this is that the disclaimer text can contain dynamic content incl. the users name and therefor gets "computed" once for every internal user/external user session).

A "session" lasts for an entire day and gets reset at midnight. So, if "Mary" later the same day decides to chat with "Jim" again, he won't receive the session disclaimer again if he already received one from "Mary". The next day, he'll receive a new one, as the session has been reset.

Disclaimer text input box:
Provide the disclaimer text in the text input field. HTML formatting tags are supported. To insert dynamic content, use a special placeholder:

Dynamic content substitution placeholders:

%R: Dynamically inserts the remote users screen name.
%S: Dynamically inserts the local users screen name.
%U: Dynamically inserts the local users authenticated user name.
%D: Dynamically inserts the current date.
%T: Dynamically inserts the current time.

Note: Substitution placeholders are case sensitive.

Example:

The following outbound disclaimer text:

<br><font size=2><b>Disclaimer:</b> All outbound messages between user '%S' (%U) and you, '%R', will be <font color="red">logged for auditing purposes.</font></font><br>

will be seen by the remote recipient like this:

Note: All outbound disclaimer messages will be logged.

Send disclaimer before/after first outgoing instant message:
Select whether you want to make the outbound disclaimer text appear before or after the actual instant message text sent by the user.

Send a disclaimer with every message:
Select this option to enable "per message" outbound disclaimer texts. "Per message" outbound disclaimers are sent before or after every message sent by the user.
